SAC April meeting minutes

Minutes of the Wednesday, April 11, 2007, SAC meeting at 7 p.m. in the UUCP Yellow House

Present: Sid Eder, Tom Henderson, Peggy Jenkins, Kayle Rice, Rod Sprague, Louise Ashmun, Mary Jo Hamilton, Brian Leekley, Jill Maxwell.

1. Report on Hunger issues: A copy of the Hunger Alliance report is attached to these minutes.
2. Planning for Jill Seaman's service and possible fundraising event April 29: Jill is planning to do a power point presentation on Sunday, April 29 in the sanctuary. We will sponsor a soup and bread dinner before the presentation as a fundraiser for her Sudan project. Prices $5 each, $15/family. Dinner 6 PM, presentation 7 PM. Tom Henderson will make a poster. Peggy will get a list together for publicity. Peggy will also find a power point projector. Kayle will look into child care providers. Mary Jo will send out an e mail to the church asking for volunteer cooks.
3. Fundraiser for Village Bicycle Project April 15. Everything is going well. Sesitshaya Marimba band will play to open. We have lots of donated door prizes. OWC [One World Cafe] will sponsor a post-function and donate half of their profits. Tendai will play at OWC.
4. Report on plans for CommUnity Walk April 28: They have a very ambitious program. We decided that we could take on selling T shirts. Jill will contact them and volunteer us.
5. Planning for Step It Up April 14 (Louise Ashmun): Event starts with a bike ride from East City Park through downtown, ending at the 1912 Building at 9:30. Joe Pallen will take the main photo; he will use Joel Hamilton's fancy camera. Louise will be at the park at 9 AM; Mary Jo will be at the 1912 Building to get the ladder out - Joe will take the photo from the ladder.
6. Planning for Renaissance Fair (Mary Jo): We have our booth reserved. Fair meeting is April 20. Menu same as last year. Peggy volunteered to make up a sign up poster. We brainstormed a list of potential beneficiaries of our profit, and settled on four: Backyard Harvest through PCEI; Darfur via UUSC; Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse, and Planned Parenthood International.
7. Planning for Mother's Day Peace Rally May 12: Rebecca Rod is generally in charge of this; we will send out an e mail via the church asking for volunteers to contact Rebecca directly. Good chance of collaboration with the PPC.
8. Iran film festival in the fall - do we want to participate? Sid Eder presented his ideas. He would like to show one or more films in the fall. Cost will probably be $500 - $700 per film. He will contact us when plans are firmed up. Brian will be the point person from SAC.
9. Joann Muneta asked via e mail if the local Scouts were being involved in the CommUnity walk. Kayle agreed to put her in touch with the people who run the GS group that meets in our church, and also with Marguerite Thoreson. She also asked if we could contribute any money towards bringing a Japanese Internment Camp survivor to speak at the high school. Unfortunately, we have no budget.
