Sunday, November 11, 2007Fiber Arts as Social Justice Work
Sunday services November 11, 2007 at 9:30am and 11:00am
Quilt Sunday Speaker: Judy LaLonde Celebrants: Members of Purple Paisley Quilters (PPQ) From Madam LeFarge to the Underground Railroad to the AIDS quilt, fiber arts have been used to convey a social and political message. What a creative way to change the world. Quilts Wanted! The PPQ is soliciting quilts and other fiber art hangings and coverings to be displayed at the church on Quilt Sunday, November 11. We would love to hear the story of your quilt and share it with the congregation. The quilt can be new or old, perfect or worn, made by you or someone else, we want them all. Please contact Mary Jo Hamilton or Marguerite Thoreson Browne (they are listed in the church directory) if you have a quilt we can use. We can arrange to pick it up at your home if that would be helpful. Help us celebrate this Sunday honoring the fiber arts. Saturday, November 03, 2007STEP IT UP rally
Step It Up rally Saturday, November 3, 2007. This is a follow
up of last spring's rally, and is focused on inviting elected officials to come and tell us how they will be leaders in the campaign to counteract global climate change. There will be a bike parade starting at 9:30 AM in East City Park, and also a walking group starting at the same site. People will converge at the 1912 Building for a rally at 10 AM to hear from our elected officials and candidates. There will be live music, and we will all pose for a group photograph which will be posted on the national Step It Up website. To help publicize and prepare this even, contact Tina Hilding and Jill Maxwell. They are in the church directory. |
